The Irony of Faith: A Confession, Criticism, and Call for Change

“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” Hebrews 11:7

What is faith? The answer depends on who you ask. Some people think faith is irrational. But we all believe in things that we cannot see or prove. For example, everyone believes that it takes 365.25 days for the Earth to orbit the sun once. But how many can prove it? Very few. We believe that there are 7 other planets out there but can the average person prove it? All we have are some photos of round things against a black background. Somebody else told us they were planets. I’m not starting some type of planet-conspiracy thing here. My point is that faith isn’t merely for the stupid. Everyone has faith in something be it science, medicine, money, the government, or Christ. The problem lies in identifying yourself as a Christian yet putting your faith in someone other than Christ.
